The North Loop church of Christ is made up of people who recognize and respect the authority of Christ and, therefore, diligently put forth every effort to serve Him as Lord. Consequently, we refuse to become a part of the confusion and division which dominates the religious world and are attempting to restore the simplicity of New Testament Christianity and the church which Jesus “purchased with His own blood” (Acts 20:28). The church belongs to Him, hence the phrase “of Christ” simply denotes ownership. We are not a part of any denomination, but are simply an independent and autonomous local congregation of those who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the only Begotten Son of God and have obeyed His command to, “Repent, and . . .be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38).
We have no written human creed but simply follow the teachings of the word of God, expressly the New Testament. We believe that each individual Christian is amenable to Christ as the head of the church (Ephesians 1:22; Colossians 1:18) and responsible to read, study and understand His divinely revealed truth (cf. Ephesians 3:3-5). Furthermore, we are just Christians (Acts 11:26); disciples of Jesus Christ. Not perfect, just forgiven.
This question is answered differently by many people. What does the Bible have to say?
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
". . . but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3)
" . . . if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)
“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)
We believe God has spoken through inspired men to reveal His word to mankind (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Furthermore, God, “has in these last days spoken to us by His Son” (Hebrews 1:2). This passage makes it plain that the New Testament, revealed by God after Christ’s death and resurrection, has been given “to us” by the authority of Jesus Christ. Additionally, the apostle Paul says that God revealed the “mystery” (that which was previously unknown) so that “when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ” (Ephesians 3:3-5). These passages show that, in spite of what many may think, we can read the Bible and understand what it says.
